A Metaphysical Look at Both
The Ten Commandments and
The Ten Commandments of Prosperity

Martie reminded me that I had done a multitude of metaphysical talks, but never one on The 10 Commandments, so I agreed to research the topic.

After stumbling upon a book by Emmet Fox entitled, “Around the Year with Emmet Fox”, I decided to do a Metaphysical talk on the 10 Commandments. However, after locating a second book written by Georgianna Tree West entitled, “Prosperity's Ten Commandments” and noticing that prosperity issues have been front and center in the news each day now, I decided to expand my talk into a series of talks linking these two topics using these books, my Unity school notes from my Bible Overview Class, and the Metaphysical Bible Dictionary, and as always my own musings.

Georgiana Tree West was one of those wonderful women from the early part of the 19th Century, who took hold of these teachings and kept them alive in her book until the rest of us could grow enough to understand them.

Today I will begin a series on the 10 Principles of Prosperity as well as a closer look at Moses and the 1st Commandment.

First of all our Prosperity is the result of the sum total of our thinking, our feelings, and our emotions. Our thoughts control our world, so why would they not control our prosperity?

“The 10 Commandments at their face value are true and valid but that is only the beginning”' writes Emmet Fox. He goes on to say “If people are going to control their lives, they must find a deeper meaning in them and it is there for the finding. In other words, Moses designed the Laws of life in order that the higher we grow Spiritually, the deeper we grow intellectually, the more we will learn from them.”

Let us begin today by reviewing a little bit about Moses himself. He lived according to history in Egypt about three thousand years ago and he lead approximately 600,000 people out of Egypt and through the wilderness in search of the Promised Land.

The name Moses itself means to draw forth. Going deeper, it represents man's development in consciousness from negative egoic thinking. Water from which Moses was taken represents darkness, fear, the unknown. When we are in the house of Faith, we escape that fate. We rise from the water of ignorance. At first, as Moses did, we fight for truth or justice in an aggressive, angry manner. Remember after learning that he, too, was Hebrew, Moses killed an Egyptian guard, who was beating a slave. This type of act, if we are wise, leads us to self examination, to involution, which always preceeds evolution. Moses fled to Horeb, which means solitude, where he lead his flock of thoughts, his sheep, to the back of the wilderness, where dwells the Divine “I am”, whose kingdom is sound judgment. He sees a burning bush, a full realization of the Divine Presence in him and he knows what to do. He was to lead from his inner Spiritual “I am” self, when he was sent by Spirit to Egypt to free the Hebrews. Moses' rod represented Spiritual power. When used correctly, it is the means of bringing Miracles to pass. He did so, leading the people out of Egypt, out of limitation. He climbed the mountain once more, in essence he climbed to a state of elevated consciousness and returned to the Hebrews below with the 10 Commandments written on two stone tablets. Stone represents something that is permanent, unchanging in both the visible and the invisible world. Says Emmet Fox, “If we want to raise our consciousness, if we want to get closer to Spirit, we must prepare ourselves by prayer and meditation.” Moses did just that and had his first revelation written in the First Commandment. He knew beyond any doubt that God and man are one.

The 1st Commandment reads “I am the Lord thy God, which has brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other Gods before me.” He is speaking of God and himself as one being.

The 10 commandments of prosperity are derivations of the 10 Commandments.

The 1st Commandment of prosperity is “Thou shalt look to no other source but God for thy supply.”

It is essentially the same as the 1st Commandment of Moses, “thou shalt have no other Gods before me". ”Thou shalt have no other source but God for thy supply” means that the source of our prosperity is none other than our God, the very center of us all.

Knowing that, where does our supply come from? In the way of talking in Biblical times, the king was the ruler of the city in the area. The king lived in his kingdom. Jesus used the terms kingdom of God and kingdom of heaven because that is what the people understood as the home of the highest, the king. If you want to know where God is right now, listen to what Jesus said. “The kingdom of God is within you”. It is not somewhere out there, but it is right here, right now.

Yet we cannot enter into our inner kingdom of heaven with fear in our consciousness, Fear and “the kingdom of heaven” are incompatible. Faith, love, forgiveness, and trust are the keys to the door of the kingdom. They are the antidotes of the poisons of fear in all its forms. Some of the major results of a life in fear is lack or poverty, not having what you want when you need it, whether it is money or physical or emotional health, Poverty is the result of breaking the first commandment of Prosperity, “thou shalt look to no other source but God for thy supply”..

One way to recognize your true prosperity is to be grateful for that which you already have, our families, our friends, our pets, our church home, our shelter, our food, the air we breathe, the water that we drink, and love that we give and receive. Another way is to notice what you do well, even if it is something that you may think is very small. Be pleased with it and just keep doing it. Somewhere, someone is appreciating it more than you know. There was a man who played his tuba in Seattle for years and years before various events. Often the music though good had little to do with the event, but that didn't stop his play with love an enthusiasm. It was catching, people always threw coins. It was how he lived. It was the one gift that he had and it gave it freely. This past year he died and there was a memorial for him. Thousands of people showed up to say good by. That man had true prosperity. He knew intuitively where the kingdom of God lived. He may not have been able to explain it, but by his behavior he knew it. Think of the old man in Andy's who plays his harmonica in College Place, if you want to know someone closer to home.

The kingdom of God within you, within me, is constantly ready to give us what we need but if we hold fear in our mind and heart, we miss it. We get wonderfully creative ideas but if we hold fear thoughts, we block them. We may not even hear them at all. An agitated mind that is in pain, physical or mental or emotional, has no room for thoughts of love, faith, trust, and forgiveness. Poverty, pain, and lack are a special kind of Hell. They are the result of the blindness of the source of our Supply, the kingdom of Heaven within us.

Often we think that there is only benefit in that which can be seen by the five senses. We can't rely on that logic to help us out of poverty. We must think outside the materialistic box of this world. We have all that we need right now in potential. As we believe in lack or prosperity we make it so. Your job, your bank account, your body are not the source of your prosperity, Their condition is the result of your relationship with source, with Spirit, with God, with your supply. Reach for it, believe in it, have faith in it, and it is yours.

Namaste,

Barbara
