Expressing What you Are: Metaphysical 6th Commandment and 6th Law of Prosperity
Remember the 1st 4 Metaphysical Commandments and the 1st 4 Laws of Prosperity as a whole give us rules for right action with God.
They are:
- God and I are One
- Worship no false idols or graven images, instead put
God 1st
- Thou shalt not take the “I am” name of Spirit, thy God,
in vain
- It is always the Sabbath Day. We honor it by
consciously spending time with Spirit in thought and in
deed.
Laws of Prosperity:
- Thou shalt look to no other source but God for thy
Supply.
- Thou shalt make no mental images of lack
- Thou shalt not speak the word of Lack or limitation;
thus, taking the “I am” name of Spirit in vain.
- Let Go and Let God Do It
The last 6 Metaphysical Commandments give us practical instructions in living a happy, healthy life; keeping right action with each other and with life in general.
The Metaphysical 5th Commandment was:
- Recognize Spirit as the only Cause, 1st Principal, One Power in two polarities, thinking and feeling. When we have this recognition, our days will be long and blessed.
5th Law of Prosperity:
- Thou shalt deal honorably with God, or Spirit, and with all human instruments through which Spirit is manifested in you.
We now move on to the 6th Commandment, which reads simplistically as “Thou shalt not kill”. Yes, as with all the others, this one must first be taken at its face value. We must not kill another. Yet, “As a rule of conduct,” states Emmet Fox, “ the commandments are 'thou shalt not', just as you have seen them written; but, when you dig more deeply, 'thou shalt not' becomes 'thou canst not'. Thus, the 6 Commandment, 'Thou shalt not Kill', is really and fundamentally an expression of the Cosmic Law that states, 'You can not kill' and the sooner you learn it, the better it will be for you.”
We are always trying to kill something in some way, not people; we leave that for the gangsters to do, at least most of us do. The deeper meaning of the commandment is here to tell us that to think that we can kill anything is to fool ourselves and to cause trouble for ourselves. Trouble that we will karmically have to deal with at a later date. Nothing ever dies from the outside. No one can really kill you, no one can kill your character, your peace of mind, your business, your reputation, or anything else that is truly yours. You can try, but no one else can do it for or to you. No man or woman was ever yet destroyed from the outside. You need not even fear your enemies, if you have any, for even they are absolutely powerless to hurt the real you. Even a church cannot be destroyed from the outside. “It is a well know saying in history” says Emmet Fox, “that the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church. The more a particular religion is persecuted, the stronger it becomes.”
Sometimes we think that things will last forever and some things do, but those that don't, are never destroyed from the outside. You simply can not kill. A great business was once built up by the Grandfather of the family and the Father made it an even greater success. The Son continued in the same vain. Then his Son, the Great Grandson, came along. He didn't love being a businessman. He had no interest in selling
cars. He was a musician masquerading as a businessman. The
car dealership soon fell apart. It withered away from the inside and the Great Grandson did nothing to stop it. No, nothing is ever destroyed from the outside.
I wish teenagers would have just a few hours of class time to explain this concept to them. If only along with math and history, they could learn in a simple way that nothing hurts them but their own thinking, what a different world we would see. For instance, there is an appalling custom in middle and high schools now where everyone is labeled a geek, a nerd, a jock, a socie, a goth, an emotional, etc. I suspect this hurts them more than we realize. If only someone would teach them instead that “you will meet in life critics, competitors, and even enemies perhaps. Yes, you may one day have to work under people, who you think are very important to your welfare; but not one of those people can really hurt you in the least, for only you know who you really are and what you are capable of doing. They don't and never will unless you tell or show them. But you can go out into the world and be foolish, make stupid mistakes, neglect your work, forget to lean on Spirit, then and only then will you come to grief. I've known people who have wasted much of their lives, thinking someone else was against them; how great they could have been, what marvelous things they could have done, if it were not for the thoughts of others who they had seen as against them. In a way it is a kind of self-drugging. As long as you believe that you will not succeed, you won't. As soon as you know that no one can really hurt you but yourself, you are free to let go of all your wrong mindedness and to be or do all that you might dream of doing. At last you are free. That is the inner Metaphysical meaning of this 6th commandment, “No one can seem to kill you but yourself; but even you cannot do that for energy cannot be created nor destroyed.”
Students of the Occult of all ages have known this to be true. We can always simply change our minds and learn something new. There was a time not so long ago that people were hanged and their bodies were destroyed for teaching new ideas, the same ideas that we discuss here today. I want to emphasize again that we cannot kill. Those who burnt alive the martyrs and reformers did not kill them. Nero did not kill Christianity. He had a good run at it, but it did not die. Constantine with his Council of Nicea established Christianity as the state Religion with specific books and rules. He nearly killed the true teachings of Joshua Bar Joseph but they survived and we study and talk about them today. The way to let your life live, grow, and multiply is to seek your Christ Consciousness, to be humble, to have the humility of Spirit to say, “ Lord, I believe, help thou my unbelief.” ( Mark 9 vrs.23)
How about prosperity? How does “Thou canst not kill...” apply to that? The 6th Commandment of Prosperity is “ “Thou shalt not take thy wealth out of circulation”. Just think what happens to your foot, if the blood flow to that foot is stopped? It will die. You must have circulation in your body for the total body to survive. If you do not have circulation, stagnation will result and sickness and death will follow. It is the same process with your prosperity. You must keep your financial energy circulating. Most of us think, I must be doing OK with this one because I spend nearly every cent that I get. Well, as usual it is not that easy. The outer behavior is just the tail of the dog. Your outer behavior is just the indicator of what is going on in your thinking, your feelings, your emotions, your beliefs; in essence, your consciousness.
Thinking again is where it all begins. Without circulation we die, without it our prosperity dies as well. Jesus, the great mystic, illustrated this with his parable of the Talents from the 25th chapter of Matthew; Matthew 25:14 begins “ A man going on a journey called his servants and entrusted them with his prosperity; to one he gave 5 talents, to another 2, and to another man he gave 1, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. The man who received the five talents went at once and invested them and made ten talents to give his master upon his return. The man with the two talents did the same and when his master returned he had four talents to give him. But he who had been given only one talent out of his fear of his masters' wrath and temper, tried to play it safe and dug in the ground and hid his masters' talent to save it for him, when the master returned. Now after a long time the master of those servants did return and the servants came to settle the accounts. And the man who had received five talents moved forward to his master and handed him ten talents, saying “Master, you delivered to me five talents; here I have made five talents more.” His master said to him “Well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a little, I will now set you over much, enter into the joy of your master”. And he also had the man with the two talents come forward. The man with the two talents came forward and said,” Master you gave me two talents, which I invested for you and now I have two more to give you as well. The master again said, “Oh good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over just a little and now I shall give you a chance to be faithful over much. Enter into the joy of your master”. Now the man with the one talent moved forward slowly saying, “Master, I know you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not winnow, so I was afraid. I went and dug a hole and hid your talent in the ground. Here you now have what was yours. But the master answered him, “ You wicked and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sowed and gather where I have not winnowed. Then ought you to have at least invested my money in a bank where it would have received interest? I shall now take the talent from you and give it to him who has 10 talents. For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will have abundance; but, from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”
A talent is a denomination of money; but it is also a Spiritual ability, i.e. painting, singing, writing, dancing, etc. By our thoughts we bring good or bad karma unto us. We bring increase continuing or victimization to ourselves by our thinking, by our feelings, and our emotions. If any function in your body is sluggish, some talent is not being nursed in the subconscious. Affirm that God's will is being done for you in all your thoughts, acts, and deeds. Be patient, trust, and you will succeed. Say to yourself or aloud to others, “I see that I am truly full of life, health, and prosperity, then I give myself the greatest gift of all, I let go and let God”.
This little parable is a basic lesson in prosperity. Jesus was teaching circulation. Most of us stop at recognizing that the servants who gained approval made money for the Master but the one who did not got into trouble. But just making money was not Jesus' lesson. He was teaching a Spiritual lesson as well. Jesus most always taught in the realm of beliefs and ideas. The two servants who increased what they were given were demonstrating their trust in the flow of life. The servant who buried his money had no faith in the flow of Spirit, no faith in circulation. The message is for everyone, to him who has in his beliefs the understanding of the wonderful abundance of this Universe, more will be given. For those who do not have Faith in the flow of life, even what they have will be taken away. It is not because God is mean. No, when we do not understand that prosperity and life flow through us, we become greedy, we hoard, we do not feel that there is enough to go around, we do not share, we become selfish, and we lose even what we had. If you don't believe me, look at society today. Banks or savings and loan industries are slowing the circulation of money and our prosperity is hurting because of it.
One final extremely important point: spending your wealth on things just for yourself or your own well being is not any better than putting your money in the ground. It is still hoarding. Spiritual circulation is giving and sharing and it is rewarded tenfold. Spending all your paycheck each month does not cut it unless part of that paycheck goes to something beyond yourself. We must give back to Spirit in some way, money, talents, prayers; the choice of which way must be prayerfully decided by you, then it is equally blessed by God. Thus the 6th Law of Prosperity is “ Thou shalt not take thy wealth out of circulation”.
Namaste,
Barbara
